artful Adventures - Sue Pieper

In college I had dreams of being an art major, but chose to raise my family first-I never did make it back to school, but did manage to always try to keep my creative spirit alive and well. Actually, raising 2 kids that are only 17 months apart, took some creativity in itself!

I'm a self-taught collage artist. My creative drive pushes me to keep trying and experimenting with the art form. When I'm not in my studio creating, I spend time searching for and learning from the many resources available today. The many members of internet art groups have generously provided a wealth of information to share with others-they have been an invaluable resource of tips, techniques, and inspiration.

On those days when nothing seems to work right and the old inner critic seems to have taken up permanent residence, my friends and family are always there to pick me back up and send me back on my merry art making way. I’m very fortunate to have this support system, and I thank each and every one of you-you know who you are!

To make something out of nothing-what a great feeling! That’s how I feel every time I start off with my supplies and a blank canvas of some sort. It’s a great feeling of accomplishment, no matter what medium I’m working with-it may be an altered book, a traditional canvas, a pile of fabric, a blank journal, an old playing card-doesn’t matter

Whatever type of canvas I am working on, bringing in my own personal style is important to me-adding colors, layers, texture, and placing objects in a manner that are pleasing to my eye, and hopefully yours, too!

Even though every art supply imaginable is readily available, I still enjoy the hunt of finding that special something to add that vintage touch that I love so much to my artwork.

My husband (for over 25 years) and I live in Wisconsin with our 3 dogs and a cat-life with a greyhound and 2 Jack Russell’s is always an adventure-especially when the Jacks want to chase the cat! We all live in an old farmhouse which is constantly either being updated or in need of it-someday, it might actually be done. We call it a work in progress-or the house that needs altering!
